Welcome to Team Burlesque - a network of Montreal-based burlesque performers!

This site highlights the appearances, performances and productions of a select group of Montreal-based burlesque performers - including Team Burlesque founding members L. Diablo, Miss Sugarpuss and Seska Lee.

Many of us work as independents while others belong to specific troupes. What we have in common is a desire to make Montreal's burlesque scene a vibrant and diverse one.

We also would like to encourage other Montreal performers and troupes so you will see their events and activities listed in our News section. Our offfical Team Burlesque events as well as those events in which Team Burlesque members are participating can be found both in the News section and in the Events section.

Team Burlesque Mentioned in the Montreal Gazette

Riding the burlesque wave
Art form is 'massive globally' and at local fest
PAT DONNELLY, The Gazette
Published: Thursday, June 19

Burlesque is back.

Not just at the Montreal Fringe Festival, which is celebrating the art form tonight at 10 at Club Coda with The Summer Games: Bingo Edition, presented by Team Burlesque, but around the world.

So says Fringe general manager Patrick Goddard. It all started to happen in the late '90s at loft parties in New York, he explained: "It spread out from there. It's absolutely massive globally. I saw tons of that kind of work at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last year."

He and Fringe producer Jeremy Hechtman produced their own take, Johnny Canuck and the Last Burlesque, in 2006.

But the Fringe's first real burlesque show was Miss Sugar Puss's Burley-que Revue, in 2005, he said. That was the beginning of Team Burlesque, which has been a resident company at the Mainline Theatre, the festival's home digs, over the past year. "It's great to be able to say, 'I run a theatre where we have our own burlesque troupe in residence,' " Goddard said.
